In a beauty pageant, would it be acceptable to dance to ';hips dont lie'; by Shakira?

My 12 year old daughter is entering a beauty pagent to earn scholarship money. She's wanting to do a dance to the song ';Hips dont Lie'; by Shakira for her talent, and my husband and I are fine with it, but were wondering if a few ';pops'; and ';shimmies'; would be too innapropriate and count against her with the judges. In a beauty pageant, would it be acceptable to dance to ';hips dont lie'; by Shakira?
I would not use it. Especially for a pageant routine. Judges want to see something that is age appropriate, not something that has too much ';adult'; type language in the song and ';adult'; style moves to go with it. It would be looked at as inappropriate for a 12 year old.

Go with a fun song and she can do lots of jazz moves that don't have hip thrusts or shimmies involved. Have you spoken with her dance teacher about choreographing a routine for her? I'm sure she would help out with a great routine for this situation.

We have gone to many dance competitions that the routines with 12 yr olds were excellent technical routines and had no shimmies or pops as you are speaking of.

I actually have had judges tell me that I should not use a song from the movie Grease with a routine that I had 8 - 9 yr olds in. And I thought that it was just a fun song that everyone knows!!

Judges are really aware of lyrics and moves that are acceptable for each age group. Be on the safe side and don't use that song. If you get to the pageant and other dancers are using inappropriate music and moves and they win....it's not a pageant that is not reputable or worth your time.In a beauty pageant, would it be acceptable to dance to ';hips dont lie'; by Shakira?
NO. NO,NO,NO. Think of what would have been appropriate when you were 12 years old and you might have a better idea of what the judges look for. They want VERY girl-next-door costuming and songs that are either patriotic, spiritial in nature, or that Doris Day could have sung in a movie in the 60's. It sounds old fashioned, but that's the scoop.
If you're a good dancer, there's no harm. If you're a bad dancer, not even Giselle is appropriate.
no... do not let her dance with that. Judges personally like songa that they do not here so often. Then the dance seems ';fresh';. Shakira is WAY too overused. And good luck to your daughter!!!
i think it would be totally OK. their not judging her sense or choice of music! their judging her dance! so g luck!
